BERNICE I. VAN AMERONGEN

Bernice I. Van Amerongen, 100, of Mount Pleasant, Iowa, passed away Monday, Sept. 23, 2019, at Henry County Health Center.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 27, 2019, at Faith Lutheran Church with the Rev. Mike Scudder, officiating. The family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be in Forest Home Cemetery.
Gifts of love and friendship may be given to Faith Lutheran Church.

Born May 17, 1919, in Winfield, Iowa, Bernice Iona, was the daughter of George and Mariana (Molander) Haushahn. She was a 1937 graduate of Mount Pleasant High School. On Nov. 8, 1942, in Kahoka, Mo., Bernice married Dan W. Ford, who died Oct. 1, 1973. She then married Gary Van Amerongen in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, on Jan. 11, 1980. He preceded her in death on March 21, 2014.
Bernice was a waitress for 30 years at the Hi Hat Cafe and was co-owner of the B & B Cafe for several years. She loved animals and enjoyed cooking, baking, reading and walking. Bernice was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and supported the Oakland Mills Nature Center.
Survivors include nephew, Kirk (Shirley) Haushahn of Gilbert, Ariz.; stepson, Don (Annie) Van Amerongen of Salem, Iowa; stepgranddaughter, Jerri Lynn (Matthew) Gingerich of Dallas, Texas; and sister-in-law, Ruperta Haushahn of Las Vegas. She also is survived by two step-great-grandchildren, Zach and Morgan Gingerich; and great-niece, Shellie Lutz.
Bernice was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; brother, Bernard Haushahn; and nephew, Michael Haushahn.
