Bernice Jennings, 96, of Mount Pleasant, died Saturday, Nov. 6, 2021, at Savannah Heights in Mount Pleasant. The funeral service for Mrs. Jennings will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 12, at First United Methodist Church, 309 N. Main St., Mount Pleasant. The Rev. David Bracht-Wagner, Senior Pastor, will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in Forest Home Cemetery, Mount Pleasant. Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. Thursday at Kimzey Funeral Home, 213 N. Main St., Mount Pleasant. The family will be present to receive friends from 5 to p.m. Thursday.
Mrs. Jennings, the former Bernice Farmer, was born Aug. 16, 1925, in Wayland, Iowa. She was the daughter of Frank B. and Anna E. (Messer) Farmer. She graduated from Wayland High School in 1943. On Nov. 17, 1944, in Mount Pleasant, Bernice was united in marriage to Homer Jennings. Mr. Jennings preceded in death in 1980.
Bernice was an employee of the former Motorola Corp. in Mount Pleasant. For 17 years, she worked primarily as an inspector and in the packaging department. She retired in 1990. After retirement, Bernice volunteered for the RSVP Program and the AEA.
Bernice was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She enjoyed reading, word search puzzles and bird watching. She was well known in her family for her sugar cookies. They were frequently a treat for her family members as they celebrated special occasions.
Those thankful for sharing in Bernice's life include her three children, Karen (John) Davis of Mount Pleasant, Becky (Michael) Metcalf-Kelly of Libertyville and Nancy Hackett of Indianola; three sisters, Dolores McGuire, Jean (Kenneth) Clark and Evelyn (Larry) Morrow, all of Wayland; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren. Bernice was also anticipating the birth of three additional great-great-grandchildren.
Her parents, husband, a grandson and two great-grandchildren preceded Bernice in death.
Those considering an expression of sympathy in lieu of flowers, may direct memorials to the First United Methodist Church or the Savanna Height Activity Fund.
