Bette Griffin

COLUMBUS JUNCTION ? Bette L. Griffin, 78, of Columbus Junction, died Sunday, Nov. 27, 2016, in Colonial Manor in Columbus Junction.

Memorial services will be held at a later date. Burial will be in the Indian Creek Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established. The Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Columbus Junction is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Griffin was born Oct. 7, 1938, in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, the daughter of Charles H. and Ethel R. (Fisher) Benhart. She married Gerald E. Griffin on June 8, 1956, in Burlington.

She received her bachelor?s degree in psychology from the University of Iowa. She was a clerk at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. She was a member of AARP and Order of Foresters, a Scout leader, Den Mother, and was active in Community Theater. In 1974, she was awarded the Woman of the Year in fast pitch softball from the Columbus Softball Association. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family, especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving are four children, Dave Griffin and wife Deb of Columbus Junction, Daniel Griffin and wife Cyndy of Columbus Junction, Barbara Greer and husband Robert of Columbus Junction, and Douglas Griffin of Lone Tree; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and an extensive number of nieces, nephews and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and two brothers, Marvin, and Wayne Benhart.
