Bettie Oakes

      COLUMBUS JUNCTION - Bettie Oakes, 81, of Columbus Junction died Wednesday, May 30, 2007 in Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following a battle with cancer.

      Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 5 in the Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Columbus Junction with the Rev. Catherine Whitlatch officiating. Burial will be in Columbus City Cemetery. Following the service there will be a time of food and fellowship in the Columbus Junction United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Columbus City United Methodist Church, the Allen Wright Hanft American Legion Post No. 100, and the Iowa City Hospice.

      Mrs. Oakes was born March 12, 1926 in Louisa County, the daughter of Warnie and Ocie (McFarland) Moran. She married Bill Oakes in January 1946. They later divorced.
