Betty M. Garmoe, 88, of Boone, formerly of the Salem and New London communities, passed away Monday, May 24, 2021, in the Hearthstone Unit of the Eastern Star and Masonic Home in Boone, Iowa.

Betty was born Aug. 22, 1932, in Homer, Iowa, the daughter of Fred Oliver and Mildred (Pardoe) Manke. She attended school in Mount Pleasant and high school in Stratford, Iowa. Betty was united in marriage to Emmett Garmoe on April 7, 1951, in Iowa City. He preceded her in death on March 11, 1992. Betty was a caring lady who helped care for several people over the years, she also was a caring mother and wife. Betty was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses Congregation.

She is survived by her children, William Dean (Julia) Garmoe of Glenwood, Iowa, James Michael (Vicky) Garmoe of Vancouver, Wash., and Rebecca Maxine (Ahmad) Abu-Hawash of Ames, Iowa; her grandchildren, Patrick, Nicklous, Jennifer, Dallien, Dylan, Mary, Kiara and Jaslyn; and her great-grandchildren, Joey, Cameron, Jackson, James, Blake and Felicity.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her daughter, Bonita Holtkamp.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 29, at Murphy Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant. The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until time of the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Oakland Mills Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Alzheimer's Association of America in her memory.
