Betty J. Sempf
Betty J. Sempf, 72, of 309 N. Elizabeth, Mt. Pleasant died at 5:30 a.m. Sunday, April 23, 2000, at the Henry County Health Center.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 27, 2000, at the Church of the Open Bible, Mt. Pleasant with the Rev. Michael Johnson officiating. Interment will be held in the Forest Home Cemetery. Visitation will be held from noon to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 26, 2000 at Weir Funeral Home, Mt. Pleasant where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday evening. A memorial has been established in memory of Mrs. Sempf.
Mrs. Sempf was born on Sept. 4, 1927 at Mt. Pleasant, to Ernest F. and Marie W. "Mamie" Piper Griest. On April 16, 1947 at Iowa City, she married the love of her life Everett Dale Sempf who survives. She graduated from Mt. Pleasant Community High School in 1945 and worked at the Ribbon Factory in Mt. Pleasant until her marriage in 1947. She then worked in several restaurants in Mt. Pleasant. She worked as an aide at the Mental Health Institute and was a secretary for Finley Law Office. She retired from MetroMail where she was a machine operator. She was a member of the Church of the Open Bible, Mt. Pleasant.
She is survived by her husband of Mt. Pleasant; two sons, Kurt D. and wife Robin, and Kevin D. and wife Jill Sempf, all of Cedar Rapids; two grandsons, Ryan K. and Noah D. Sempf, both of Cedar Rapids; one brother, Raymond L. and wife Dorothy Griest of Mt. Pleasant; and sisters-in-law, Alma Sempf of Mt. Pleasant and Nadine Griest of Wichita Falls, Texas. She is preceded in death by one daughter, Janice J. Sempf; two brothers, Melvin E. and Oliver A. Griest; and three sisters, Freda L. Griest, Irene Vaughn and Ruth Chapman.
