Betty J. Ward, 97, of Washington, Iowa, died Friday, June 24, 2022, in Washington, Iowa.

The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 2, 2022, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery at a later date. Betty was born January 25, 1925, in Washington, Iowa, the daughter of Vernon Earl and Georgia I. (Rich) Dawson. She attended country school in Washington County and graduated from Washington High School. Betty was united in marriage to Bill Ward in August of 1953.

She lived most of her life in Washington, Iowa, where she worked various retail jobs. Betty also managed liquor stores in Washington and lastly worked at Wal Mart in Washington and Coralville until age 89, when she retired.

Betty was an avid bowler and taught Junior bowling for several years. She also enjoyed playing softball. She was an avid Iowa Hawkeye sports fan and worked security for the Hawkeye football and basketball games.

She is survived by two daughters: Sandy Robinson and Marilyn Jewell, both of Washington, Iowa; five grandchildren: Teri (Doug) Russell, Kris Dowis, Tim Robinson, Jake Robinson and Stephanie Jewell; seven great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill Ward; son, Steve Pettavino; two sisters; and six brothers.
