Betty Jane Hining

      Betty Jane Hining, 77, of Fairfield, died at her winter residence in Clearwater, Fla., at 1:40 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002.

      The funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 3, at the Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield, with the Rev. Keevin Koch officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Home Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant. Open visitation began on Sunday afternoon. A memorial has been established to the American Cancer Society.

      Mrs. Hining was born on Sept. 12, 1925 in Mt. Pleasant, the daughter of Frank and Viola Holland Welcher. She married Arden Hining on June 9, 1946, at the Open Bible Church in Mt. Pleasant.

      She lived most of her life in the Fairfield area and was employed at the ordnance plant in Middletown during World War II. She was a homemaker.

      Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Debra Hining of Palm Harbor, Fla.; a grandson; two sisters, Erma Hayward of Mt. Pleasant, and Geneviene Brown of New London; and three brothers, Eugene Welcher of Biggsville, Ill., Bill Welcher of Manchester, and Bob Welcher of West Burlington.

      She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Mary Alice, Marilyn and Vera; and four brothers, Paul, Lee, Ralph and Joe.
