Betty Jane Woodward was born July 28, 1943, in rural North English, the daughter of Carroll Leroy and Luella Jane (Carter) Marine. She graduated from English Valleys High School. On July 28, 1963, Betty Jane was united in marriage to Donald Eugene Woodward at Champion Hill Methodist Church, near North English. Over the years, she worked at Farmer’s Savings Bank in North English, cleaned houses and later worked as a clerk at the University of Iowa until retirement. Betty Jane was a member of the Red Hats Society and the United Methodist Women. She enjoyed going to flea markets, thrifting, cats, listening to music, watching sports especially the Iowa Hawkeyes and Indiana Fever and attending as many of her grandchildren and great grandchildren’s activities as she could. Betty Jane died on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at the age of 81 years.
She is survived by her two daughters Mary Beth (David) Knipfer of North English and Jane Ann (David) Croft of Washington; four grandchildren Betsy (Mitch) Frazier of Parnell, Linda (Andy) Mather of Sigourney, Kile (Laci) Knipfer of North English and Jaime (Gene) Moothart of New Sharon; eleven great-grandchildren: Kaylee, Isaac, Bryker and Coraline Frazier, Owen & Allison Mather, Saige, Savannah and Hudson Knipfer and Zoey and Nora Moothart; a sister Margaret Lown of North English; a brother Clifford (Rita) Marine of Wellman; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded by her parents; husband; and two nephews.
Funeral Services were 11:00 am on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at the Powell Funeral Home in North English. Burial followed in the Yankee Point Cemetery. Visitation was on Saturday from 9:00 am until service time. Memorials may be given to the North English Fire Department or Essence of Life Hospice.
