Betty Jean Johnson (Mrs. Gale "Swede"), 97, of Fairfield, formerly of Bloomfield, Iowa, passed away on Jan. 16, 2020, at the Jefferson County Health Center in Fairfield. She was born on Oct. 28, 1922, in Milton, Iowa, the daughter of Ira and Cecil (McBratney) Deal. She was married to

Gale "Swede" Johnson in Lancaster, Mo., on Nov. 11, 1941. They were married 62 years, he preceded her in death in 2003.

Betty worked as a cashier at Keith's Grocery in Bloomfield for over 30 years. She enjoyed crocheting, getting her hair done and watching Lawrence Welk and WWF Wrestling.

Betty is survived by one daughter, Donna Jean (Don) Henderson of Fairfield; two grandchildren, Lori Jean (Jeff) Anderson of Beaver Dam, Wis., and Eric (Michelle) Henderson of Fairfield; and four great-grandchildren, Tyler and Brittany Jean Anderson and Averi and Ella Henderson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three sisters, Virginia Daniels, Shirley Hamersley, Charlene Hartman; and two brothers, Fred Deal and Dr. Ira "Max" Deal.

Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, at Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Betty's nephew, the Rev. Bill Hornback officiating. Visitation was before the service. Burial will be at the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield.
