Betty June Kilbourn, 100, of Mt. Pleasant and New London, died Wednesday, February 16, 2022, at Van Vorhies Haus, Mt. Pleasant. She was born North of Mt. Pleasant on June 16, 1921, to George Thomas and Faynella Foggy Burke. She was a 1938 graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School.
On March 3, 1979, she married the love of her life, Terry Kilbourn at the New London United Methodist Chapel; he died October 10, 2018.
Betty worked at the HiHat Cafe in the morning, Dyall Studios in the afternoon, and later at Vega Industries and Heatilator for 15 years total. She was an ACBL Gold Life Master, member of Mt. Pleasant Country Club, Deerwood Golf Club and the New London United Methodist Church. She enjoyed swimming and spending time in the sun, golfing, going out to eat, riding her moped in earlier years, and absolutely loved playing duplicate bridge.
She is survived by her son, Jerry Warren (Karen) Howe of Melrose, Iowa; two step-daughters, Sara (Jim) McClure of Mt. Pleasant, and Ann (Randy) Augspurger of Springfield, Illinois; three grandchildren, Michelle (Dan) Field, Brian Howe and Sean (Jo) Howe; six step-grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; her bridge family and a host of friends.
Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one step-daughter, Susie Klopfenstein; two step-fathers, Ellis Nicholas and Rex Templeton; and her beloved Grandmother Minnie Hanks Hill.
According to her wishes, her body has been cremated and a graveside inurnment will be held at 1:30 p.m., Sunday, February 20, 2022, at Burge Cemetery, New London. Pastor Ralph Andersen will officiate. Following the service, the family will greet friends at a reception at Elliott Chapel, New London.
