BRIGHTON ? Betty Lou Ledger, 88, of Fairfield, formerly of Brighton, died Saturday, Sept. 12, 2015, in Sunnybrook Living Care Center in Fairfield.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 16, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in East Pleasant Plain with the Rev. Robert Striegel officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday at the church, with family present from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Prayers for a Christian Wake will begin at 7 p.m., Tuesday at the church. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph?s Church, St. Joseph Cemetery Association, Hospice Compassus of Cedar Rapids, or memorial Masses. Memorials may be left at the church or mailed to the Bill Ledger family at 10 Kenneth Drive, Iowa City, IA 52245. Gould Funeral Home of Brighton is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Ledger was born May 22, 1927, in Harper, the daughter of A.J. and Loretta (Lampe) Adam. She married Lester R. Ledger on Feb. 14, 1953, in Harper.
She grew up in Harper and graduated from St. Elizabeth Catholic School in 1945. She was a homemaker and had worked at the Nieter Funeral home in Fort Madison and at the Harper Post Office. She was active with many interests: dancing, roller skating, reading, drawing, stamp and coin collecting, gardening, hand-forming clay figurines, playing cards, photo tinting, and crocheting, and was ?locally famous? for donating the chickens for the St. Joseph Fall Bazaar and Auction. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Altar and Rosary Society, and the Red Hat Society.
Surviving are four daughters, Joyce Novak and husband John of Toledo, Debra Palmer of Altoona, Bonnie Doughty and husband Marshall of North Platte, Nebraska, and Mary Bruning and husband John of Fairfield; five sons, Steve Ledger and wife Vicki of Richland, Bob Ledger and wife Shelly of Minnetonka, Minnesota, Ron Ledger and wife Linda of Pekin, Illinois, Bill Ledger and wife Collette of Iowa City, and Rick Ledger and wife Melanie of Oak Grove, Missouri; 30 grandchildren; 30 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Vivian Peiffer of Derby, Kansas; and one brother, Dennis Adam and wife Betty of Fairfield
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, on April 13, 2009; and one brother, Vernon ?Bud? Adam.
