Betty L. Stewart, age 94, of Riverside, Iowa, passed away on Monday, September 22, 2025, at Washington County Hospital surrounded by her children.
A graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at Elm Grove Cemetery, with Pastor Tim Johnson officiating. The family will be present to receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home. Memorials have been established for the Riverside First Responders. Betty was born November 25, 1930, in Ainsworth, Iowa, the daughter of Roy E. and Alma L. (Riegel) Wood. She graduated from Ainsworth High School and attended the School of Cosmetology in Davenport, Iowa. Betty was united in marriage to Robert L. Stewart on December 28, 1952, in Ainsworth, Iowa.
Betty lived in Riverside, Iowa, since 1956 where she worked as a beautician and later worked as a tax preparer for Moeller Accounting in Iowa City until her retirement in 1992. She was a member of the Riverside Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and Bible School and sang in the church choir. Betty was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for over 60 years. In her earlier years she enjoyed painting. She enjoyed camping, fishing, going on cruises and traveling to South Padre Island.
She is survived by her three children: daughter, Barbara James of Washington, Iowa; daughter, Sheri (Marty) Plecker of Ainsworth, Iowa; and son, Robert (Marita) Stewart of Riverside, Iowa; four grandchildren: Nic (Megan) Plecker; Melanie (Josh) Harrison; Stuart (Lindsay) Plecker; and Tara (David) Stewart-Ruiz; and nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters-in-law Linda Wood of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Dolores Wood of Washington, Iowa; Opal Wood of Arizona; and Pat (Clyde) Dawson of Washington, Iowa.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bob Stewart in 2023; brothers, Glen, Norman, Joe and wife Mabel, and Gilbert Wood; sisters, Julia Polito and husband Anthony and Bonnie Porter and husband Jim; and son-in-law, Craig James.
