Betty Lawson Sherod Mitchell March 13, 1924 - August 4, 2003

      Betty Lawson Sherod Mitchell, 79, of Bonaparte, died at 10:50 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 4, 2003, at Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua.

      The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 7 at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with the Rev. Catie Newman officiating. Burial will be in Pittsburgh Cemetery, west of Keosauqua. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 6 at the funeral home, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m. Memorials to Van Buren County Hospital hospice room or nurses' lounge may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at No. 2, Vale View Circle, Bonaparte IA 52620.

            Survivors are her husband; three daughters, Sheila Hoaglin of Canton, Mo., Mary Ann Plemmons of Battletown, Ky.; and Carol Mitchell and her husband Don Witte of Winston-Salem, N.C.; four sons, Donald and his wife Phyllis Mitchell, and Matt and his wife Carol Mitchell, all of Bonaparte; Mark and his wife Karen Mitchell of Salem, and Todd and his wife Brenda Mitchell of Peosta; a sister, Dorothy Moore, and a brother, Robert and his wife Berry Lawson, all of Fairfield; and 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

      In addition to her first husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Richard Sherod, a granddaughter, five sisters and two brothers.
