Betty Lee Scott, 90, of Burlington, passed away at
5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7, 2020, at the Great River Klein Center in West Burlington.
Born Jan. 9, 1930, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Ralph L. and Mary Frances Evans Blake. On June 27, 1950, she married Dan Elmer Scott in the Methodist Church in Mediapolis. They were happily married for 69 years.
After high school, she attended college and received her bachelors degree in education from Iowa Wesleyan University.
She taught in the Burlington school system for 37 years.
Betty was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Burlington, P.E.O. Sisterhood and Delta Kappa Gamma International Society for Key Women Educators. She was active in the church, an avid reader and enjoyed quilting and sewing. Family was the most important thing to Betty and she always made sure everyone was taken care of.
Survivors include her children, Mark Dan (Deb) Scott of Middletown, Mary Ellen (Jerry) Stamp of Iowa City and Diane Lee (Ravi) Scott of St. Louis, Mo.; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Besides her beloved husband, Betty was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, John Blake, and one sister, Dorothy Broeker.
Visitation will be from noon until 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The funeral service for Betty will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, at Grace United Methodist Church with Pastor Tammi Wirt officiating. A time of food and fellowship will be held at Grace United Methodist Church following the service. Burial will be in Kossuth Cemetery following the luncheon.
A memorial has been established for Grace United Methodist Church.
