Betty Marie Hunter, 94, of Mount Pleasant, passed away on Friday, Oct. 18, 2019, at the Henry County Health Center in Mount Pleasant.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, at the First United Methodist Church in Mount Pleasant with the Rev. David Bracht-Wagner officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Home Cemetery in Mount Pleasant. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until service time, Wednesday at the church.
Memorials may be directed to the First United Methodist Church or to the VFW Auxiliary Post 2561 in her memory.
Betty was born April 1, 1925, south of Lockridge, Iowa, the third child of five children to David and Bertha Brownell Burky. She graduated from Mount Pleasant High School in 1943. Following her graduation, she was united in marriage to Raymond Chester Hunter on Dec. 11, 1943, he preceded her in death on April 5, 2016. Betty was a farmer's wife, she raised chickens, sold eggs, raised a large garden and helped Raymond on the farm. She enjoyed embroidering and crocheting.
Betty was a member of the VFW Auxiliary Post 2561 of Mount Pleasant, where she served as secretary for 10 years, Trenton American Legion, where she served as treasurer for 15 years, South Center Club, Henry County Health Center Auxiliary, Love Circle, Neighborhood Coffee Club and the First United Methodist Church of Mount Pleasant.
Betty is survived by her sons, Robert (Renee) Hunter of Hillsboro and Daniel (Deanna) Hunter of Harrison, Ark.; three grandchildren, Dianne (Scott) Kemp, Mark (Gina) Hunter and Michael (Stephanie) Hunter; and four great-grandchildren, Rob Pohren, Courtney Kemp, Kristin Kemp and Leah Hunter; her sister, Florence Kinney of Mount Pleasant; and one brother, Harold Burky of Springfield, Mo.; along with several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one brother, Carl Burky; and one sister, Twila Parsons.
