Betty “Pauline” Richardson, 89, of Altoona, Iowa, formally of Crawfordsville, Iowa, passed away on September 22, 2025 at her daughter’s residence under hospice care. She was born on September 13, 1936, in Columbus Junction, Iowa, to Dewey and Verda (Metzger) Jones. A graduate of Wyman High School in 1954, Pauline earned her Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) degree from the University of Iowa in 1955. She went on to dedicate 30 years of compassionate service as an LPN at Sunrise Terrace Care Center in Winfield, retiring in 2001. Pauline’s sense of humor, compassionate care, and kind spirit were evident in everything she did.
Pauline was the devoted wife of Robert “Floyd” Richardson, whom she married on June 24, 1956, at Spring Run Church in Columbus Junction, Iowa. Together, they raised five children: daughter Regina (John) Arthur of Iowa City and their children: Jim (Jess), Jill, and Michael (Tiffany); son, Robert (Cathy) Richardson of Columbus Junction and their children: Amber (Dan) and Brenda (Ben); son, Alan (Lori) Richardson of Lincoln, Arkansas, and their children: Cooper (Lauren) and Colby; son, David (Allison Grand) Richardson of Crawfordsville; and daughter, Teresa (Rick) TeKolste of Altoona and their children: Colton (Amber), Logan and Devon; and sister-in-law Helen Edwards of Ainsworth. Pauline’s additional grandchildren were Kelly Dotson, Kasey (Jared) Rees, Marty (Kenzie) Lintz, Colin Lintz, Ashley (Josh Leffler) Percival, and Megan (Jacob Henderson) Percival. Pauline was also a proud and loving great-grandmother to nineteen cherished great-grandchildren.
Pauline was an active member of the United Church of Crawfordsville, where she contributed to the Dorcas Sewing Group and participated in the Wednesday Study Club and White Cloud Neighborhood Club. She enjoyed a variety of hobbies, including sewing, reading, puzzling, and playing cards. She brought warmth and joy to every gathering and was known for her kind heart, quiet strength, and generous spirit. Pauline’s legacy lives on through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Pauline was preceded in death by her parents, as well as her brothers, Ray Jones, and Burdette (Pat) Jones, and her in-laws, Everett and Dorothy Burkheiser, and Bill Edwards.
