Bettyglenn Jensen Osincup, age 104, of Washington, Iowa, passed away Monday, November 27, 2023, at the Halcyon House in Washington.
Memorial services will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 11, 2023, at the Washington United Methodist Church with services officiated by Ron Caquelin. Interment will take place at the Nutmeg Cemetery in rural Kalona, Iowa. Memorials have been established to the Washington County Betterment Foundation – Herb and Betty Jensen Osincup Legacy Fund. Bettyglenn was born November 9, 1919, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of William Hans and Hazel Blanche (Duffren) Jensen. She graduated from Parker High School in Chicago in 1937 and attended Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, Iowa, where she was a cheerleader. Betty graduated from the University of Iowa in 1941. She was united in marriage to Herbert Conklin Osincup on August 24, 1940, in Chicago.
In her teenage years, Betty was a semi professional entertainer in the Chicago area where she was a dancer and singer. In 1931, Betty and a friend sang on the NBC Blue Network for the first season of the Little Orphan Annie live radio show. She and Herb moved to Washington, Iowa, in 1942. Betty was very civic minded and was a member of the Federated Women’s Clubs of America. She was the Music Chairperson for the State of Iowa and was instrumental in establishing campships to send kids to music camps. She was a member of T.T.T. and sang for many years with the “Charmonaires”. Betty was involved in many Washington Community Theater Productions. She and Herb entertained as the “HOBOS” throughout eastern Iowa and western Illinois at many county fairs and events.
Betty is survived by four daughters: Donna K. Olson and husband Robert of Iowa City, Iowa; Nancy E. Roselund of Hills, Iowa; Janet O. Hurley and husband Stanley Goldenberg of Miami, Florida; Elyse E. Chapman of Coralville, Iowa; nine grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 2004; sister, Sylviabelle Ackerlund; and four sons-in-law: Mike Hurley, Jovon Schultz, Bruce Chapman and Jon Roselund.
