Billy Ralph Nordyke, 89, of Winfield, passed away Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at the Sunrise Terrace Care Center. A funeral service with military honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at the United Methodist Church in Winfield, where the family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Tuesday morning. A private burial will take place at Winfield-Scott Township Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Wounded Warriors Project or to the Parkinsons Foundation. Billy was born October 28, 1934 in Richland, Iowa, the son of Homer Lee and Matilda (Cheeseman) Nordyke. He graduated from Richland High School and from Iowa State University. He went on to graduate from Seton Hall Medical School in New Jersey. Billy served honorably in the National Guard during Desert Storm and retired as a General. He was united in marriage to Georgette Bednar on June 17, 1972 in Wayne, New Jersey.
Billy was a Family Practice Physician in Winfield for many years. After his office closed, he worked as a traveling emergency doctor for the Emergency Physicians Association. He also farmed outside of Winfield. Billy was a member of the United Methodist Church in Winfield, the Lions Club, the VFW and the American Medical Association. He enjoyed wrestling, airplanes, language and computers.
He will be missed by his wife, Georgette Nordyke of Winfield; children: Mark (Marie) Nordyke of Patterson, NJ; Brad (Carmen) Nordyke of Rancho Viejo, TX; Stephanie Timmis-Nordyke (Melani) of Delray Beach, FL; Nancy (Chris) Nelson of Decatur, IL; and Billy Nordyke, Jr. of Brownstown, MI; grandchildren: Brad Nordyke, Jr., Brayden Nordyke, Mark Nordyke, Jr., Andrew Nordyke, Matthew Nordyke, Corran Nelson and Brendan Nelson; and sisters: Bernita DenHartog of Lincoln, NE and Janice (Donald) Underwood of Coralville.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Anita McKnown.
