Blaine 'Slim' Mark Applegarth
Blaine "Slim" Mark Applegarth, 88, of Burlington, died at 10:38 p.m., Saturday, July 9, 2004, at the Burlington Care Center.
The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 13, at Burlington Apostolic Christian Church, with ministers of the church officiating. Visitation will be from noon to 4 p.m. today in Lunning Chapel in Burlington. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the church. Memorials have been established to Great River Hospice and Burlington Apostolic Christian Church.
Mr. Applegarth was born April 22, 1916, in Haxtum, Colo., the son of Albert and Effie Kinzie Applegarth. He married Betty Maxine Geffers. She preceded him in death in July 1968. He married Margaret Jones in Burlington, Sept. 24, 1969. He worked for Burlington City Bus in the 1940s, was a farmer until 1964, and then was a custodian for Burlington Schools for 27 years until retirement in 1991. He was a member of Burlington Apostolic Christian Church and enjoyed camping, boating and gardening.
Survivors include his wife; five sons, Michael Applegarth of Burlington; Jim Applegarth of Wever, John Jones of Spring Valley, Calif., Jim Jones of Davenport and David Applegarth of Milwaukee, Wis.; two daughters, Lelia Wilkerson of Mt. Union, and Anne Veith of Kansas City, Mo.; 17 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and a brother, Paul Applegarth of Wauneta, Neb.
In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister.
