Robert "Bob" Klein, 89, passed away Wednesday, January 22, 2025 at St. Luke's Helen G. Nassif Transitional Care Center in Cedar Rapids, IA. Funeral services were held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 28, 2025 at McLaren's Resthaven Chapel in West Des Moines, IA with burial at Resthaven Cemetery. Visitation was from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at McLaren’s.
Robert Klein was born December 31, 1935 in rural Polk County, IA to Jesse and Evelyn (Brady) Klein. He graduated from Corydon High School in 1953, and continued his education at Drake University in Des Moines, IA. Robert was united in marriage with Mardelle "Marty" Klein on June 23, 1956. In 1959, Bob and Marty moved to Marengo, IA with their two sons, as he was assigned a trooper position with the Iowa Highway Patrol. He served in that capacity until 1981. He was a proud member of the Iowa State Patrol and served with dignity and integrity. After his retirement he and Marty spent over 30 years wintering in Florida. The couple had always enjoyed boating and spent many summers in the Lake of the Ozarks. Bob and Marty had many friends and enjoyed spending time with them. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan, and he and Marty were fortunate enough to attend Iowa football games in Hawaii, Florida and two Rose bowls.
Robert is survived by two sons, Rick (Lisa) Klein of Hiawatha, IA and Steven "Scoob" Klein of Marengo, IA; four grandchildren, Stephanie (Tim) Nye of Cedar Rapids, IA, Andrew (Jill) Klein of Coon Rapids, IA, Sara Reynolds of Washington D.C. and Beth Reott of Jacksonville, FL. Robert had six great-grandchildren, Connor Barnes, Lydia, Eliza and Mitchell Nye, and Hayden and Hendrick Klein.
Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Mardelle; parents; and brother and sister-in-law, Ralph and Glea Klein of Urbandale.
