Bonnie Lucille Bannister, age 69, of Washington, Iowa, died Monday, February 18, 2019, at the University of Iowa Hospital following a short illness.

Celebration of life services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 4, 2019, at the United Presbyterian Church in Washington with Pastor Erin Kaye officiating. The family will be present to receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Monday at the United Presbyterian Church. Interment will take place 9:30 a.m. Monday, March 4th at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Memorials have been established for the United Presbyterian Church. Bonnie was born June 4, 1949, in Iowa City, Iowa, the daughter of Russell Gingerich and Wilma Ivorine (Oxley) Bannister. She graduated from Washington High School in 1967 and received her Bachelor Degree from the University of Iowa in 1971. Bonnie went on to obtain a Master of Arts in Education from the University of Northern Iowa in 1985.

Bonnie worked as a Teacher and Librarian for schools in Illinois , primarily in Nauvoo, Illinois, for many years until her retirement in 2004. She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Washington where she served as a Deacon. Bonnie was also a member of the Teachers Association and Bargaining Committee. She served as treasurer for the local Democratic Party for several years and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.

She is survived by her brother, Russell R. Bannister of Peculair, MO.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents.
