GRINNELL ? Bonnie J. Peiffer, 90, of Grinnell, died Saturday, March 12, 2016, in St. Francis Manor in Grinnell.
The family will be present from 10 to 11 a.m., Monday, March 21, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell. A private family graveside service will be at Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell with the Rev. David Crow, pastor of the Grinnell United Methodist Church, officiating. Memorials may be directed to PALS or to Grinnell Regional Hospice and sent in care of the Smith Funeral Home, P.O. Box 368, Grinnell, IA 50112.
Mrs. Peiffer was born May 10, 1925, in Sigourney, the daughter of Harry and Cecil (Peick) Simpson. She married Paul Peiffer on Aug. 31, 1948.
She was raised in Washington and graduated from Washington High School. Later, she attended Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri, and the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas. She and her husband lived in various areas of the United States, with his work on the railroad. In 1966 the family moved to Grinnell and she worked as a legal secretary for the Bierman Law Firm. In 1974 she purchased the Poweshiek Abstract Company in Grinnell and operated it until she sold the business to her son, Matt, in 1988. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, P.E.O. Chapter NF, the Iowa Land Title Association and the American Land Title Association. She enjoyed reading, traveling throughout the United States and Europe, and following the Iowa Hawkeyes.
Surviving are her husband, Paul Peiffer of Grinnell; two children, Debbi Murty and husband Jerry of rural Tama, and Matt Peiffer and wife Ann of Grinnell; eight grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and one infant brother, Jack Simpson.
