She attended Mt. Pleasant schools. She enjoyed going to Grandview Church in Quincy until her health declined, then watching the services online.
She worked in production at Heatilator until her retirement and was proud to be a member of the “Silver Circle”. She was a member of the Rhythm Rockers and Happy Memories singing groups; a James Harlan chapter member of the DAR; enjoyed participating in Vacation Bible School and nursing home ministries; and loved working in her beautiful flower gardens.
Survivors include her daughters, Cathie (Dan) Schreiner and Sindy (Lawrence) Wear, both of New London; sons, Scott (Keri) Thomas of Van Meter and Dennis (Marilyn) Thomas of Quincy, Illinois; one brother, Marvin James (Barb) Schenk of Mt. Pleasant; grandchildren, Andrea (Alan) Armstrong, Derek Schreiner, Dawn (Chad) Parker, Dee (David) Paulson, Matthew (Renee) Thomas, Mallory (Aaron) Brown, Zach (Laura) Blome, Bree (Shae) Ary, Joshua Thomas and Zachary (Caitlin) Thomas; and many beloved great- and great-great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Roger, Robert and Larry Schenk.
According to her wishes her body has been donated to the University of Iowa deeded body program.
There will be a family celebration of life at a later date. A memorial has been established for Grandview Church, 1019 Cedar Street, Quincy, IL 62301. Elliott Chapel, New London, is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be left at www.elliottfuneralchapel.com.
