BROOKS ROBERT TAYLOR
North Liberty
Brooks Robert Taylor gained his angel wings and a fresh pair of basketball shoes on February 1, 2022, at MercyOne in Des Moines, Iowa. Brooks was born on October 16, 1952, and was adopted by Bob and Ella Taylor in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Brooks grew up in Parkston, S.D., where he graduated high school in 1970. He later went on to obtain his Bachelor's Degree in Mass Communications at South Dakota State University.
Brooks married Joan Marie Kemmerick on March 8, 1986, and became the stepfather to Chad and Holly. The family settled in Washington, Iowa, where they welcomed daughters Brooke and Bailee. Brooks worked as an editor at The Washington Journal from 1987 to 1998. Eventually, in 1998, the family moved to Pocahontas, Iowa, where Brooks spent most of his journaling career with the Record-Democrat.
Many people knew Brooks anywhere he went. He was no stranger to most and he was often found under one of the baskets during a Friday night varsity basketball game with camera in hand. Most knew him as the Editor for the Record-Democrat and some called him "Elvis" due to the hair. The most important people to him though, called him "Dad."
Brooks is the father to two girls, Brooke and Bailee. He was very involved in their lives, especially when it came to sports; basketball mostly. You could find him in the gym with the girls after hours rebounding countless shots put up. He always knew how to make them laugh the hardest and wasnt afraid to give his "fatherly advice." His daughters were his greatest joy in his life.
Brooks was also an avid Chicago Cubs fan; and man, did he love to watch every game and cheer for them from home every chance he could. Being a Chicago fan often brought a lot of disappointment and he wasn't afraid to say what he wanted to the TV either. He loved his Iowa Hawkeyes as well and it can be remembered going to Iowa games and listening to the post show the whole drive back home on that AM station.
Brooks is survived by his two daughters, Brooke of North Liberty, IA, and Bailee (Justin) Greaves of Chatham, IL; as well as one grand-daughter, Kinslee Luedtke (Brooke) of North Liberty, Iowa.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Online condolences may be sent to his family at www.lensingfuneral.com.
