Brucilla "Brucie" Roberta Lorenz was born May 19, 1943, in Moline, Illinois, the daughter of Roy Lester and Genevieve Inez (Metcalfe) Hicks. She was baptized on April17, 1949 and confirmed on March 25, 1956 at the South Park Presbyterian Church in Rock Island. She graduated from Rock Island High School.
Brucie was united in marriage to Dwight Alfred Lorenz on February 14, 1982, at the Parview Lutheran Church in Eldridge, Iowa. They made their home near South Amana. Brucie worked for the Williamsburg Community Schools as a bus driver from 1982 to 2008. She and Dwight also measured bins for the FSA office. She was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church, where she was active in Women’s Guild, Altar Guild, helping with the His Too Class and helped serve lunch at LIS. Brucie and Dwight gave rides to the gentlemen at Systems Unlimited to church every Sunday. She also volunteered for HACAP. Brucie died Thursday, February 26, 2026, at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City at the age of 82 years.
She is survived by her husband Dwight; five step children: Michael (Deb) Lorenz of Des Moines, Vickie (Ray) Wirth of Nevada, Kim (Perry) Daugherty of Centerville, Kelly (Sandy) Lorenz of Marengo and Tony Lorenz of Boone; 9 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren and a brother-in-law: David Harlan of Mahomet IL. She is preceded in death by her parents, a daughter Susan Ohrberg and her sister Reta Harlan.
Funeral Services will be 10:30 am on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Williamsburg. Burial will follow in the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday, from 5:00 - 7:00 pm at the Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg. Memorials may be given to the Lutheran Interparish School or St. Paul Lutheran Church.
