Carl F. Dallmeyer, age 94, of Washington, Iowa, died Saturday, December 22, 2018, at the University of Iowa Hospital after injuries resulting from a fall.
Celebration of life services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 27, 2018, at the United Methodist Church with Pastor Kwang Song officiating. Calling hours will begin 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 26, 2018, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Interment with military honors conducted by Washington American Legion Post 29, will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for the United Methodist Church, Washington County Fair Association or the Washington Betterment Foundation. Carl was born November 22, 1924, on the family farm in Louisa County, Iowa. He was the youngest of nine children born to Lewis and Gertrude (McDaniel) Dallmeyer. He graduated from Columbus Junction High School and attended Radio School at DeVry Institute in Chicago, Illinois. Carl was united in marriage to Helen Hayes on November 17, 1944, in Pacific Grove, California. He served honorably in the United States Army from 1943 until 1946, as a Mess Hall Staff Sergeant.
Carl was the CEO/President and Director of McCleery Cumming Co., which at the time was the largest manufacturer of calendars sold through distributors. He retired in 1995. He is a member of the United Methodist Church. He received the 2013 Bill Sitler Rotary Citizen of the Year Award. Carl was an early member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce, served on the Washington Community School Board for ten years and was instrumental in the construction of the Junior High School. He served as Treasurer of the First Christian Church for 27 years and served on the Washington Community Theater Board and was a member of the Specialty Advertising Association.
Carl believed strongly in being active in and supporting his community. He and Helen were major contributors to many local projects including: Washington Community School District Auditorium, Washington Free Public Library, Lending Hands, United Presbyterian Home, First Christian Church, St. James Catholic Church, United Methodist Church, Sun City Christian Church, Pacific Grove Christian Church, University of Iowa Foundation, Washington County ISU Extension Building, Washington Community Theater, Republican Party, Herbert Hoover Library, Marr Park Conservation Education Center, Lake Darling Lodge Building Project, Washington Hospital Foundation, Washington Community Chest, Lake Darling Youth Center, Hamakua Place, Main Street Washington, Washington Tree Committee, WEDG and the Washington Betterment Foundation.
Carl is survived by his wife, Helen Dallmeyer of Washington, Iowa; son, Kent (Jane) Dallmeyer of Washington, Iowa; daughter, Dae (Russ) Underwood of Johnston, Iowa; three grandchildren: Kurt (Jan) Dallmeyer of Wellman, Iowa; Karin Wellington of Boone, Iowa; Brian (Liz) Underwood of Orlando, Florida; seven great grandchildren: Cole, Kyle, and Kellie Dallmeyer; Warren, Grant and Flora Wellington; and Lydia Underwood. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Lola Tremont; twin sisters, Agnes and Minnie; sister, Helen Thompson; four brothers, Francis, Floyd, Kenneth, and Lewis; half-sister, Lois Lowe; and half-brother, Harlan Dallmeyer.
