Carl E. Burky November 13, 1919 - July 25, 2005

Carl E. Burky, 85, of Mt. Pleasant, died Monday, July 25, 2005, at the Henry County Health Center in Mt. Pleasant.

      The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 1 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Mt. Pleasant, with the Rev. Nick Adam officiating. Burial will be held in St. Alphonsus Catholic Cemetery with full military honors at a later date. Visitation will be from 1:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday, July 31 at the St. Alphonsus Gathering Center, with family present from 6 to 8:30 p.m. A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. and a Vigil Service at 6:15 p.m. Memorials have been established to the Foundation for Fighting Blindness, St. Alphonsus Catholic Church or to the Henry County Honor Guard. Beatty-Murphy Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant is in charge of arrangements.

      Survivors include his two daughters, Donna and her husband Jim Matheney and Dorothy and her husband Paul Wehage, all of Mt. Pleasant; and a son, Dennis and his wife Carol Burky of Cedar Rapids; eight grandchildren, Michelle Everitt, Michael Cogswell, Christopher Burky, Jennifer Oldfield, Aaron Burky, Travis Cogswell, Jason Burky and Joshua Ehrhart; four step-grandchildren , Brad and Ryan Matheney, Jill Daniel and Bill Wehage; and 15 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Florence and her husband Darrell Kinney, Betty and her husband Raymond Hunter, all of Mt. Pleasant, and Twila Parsons of Burlington; and a brother, Harold and his wife Judy Burky of Springfield, Mo.

      In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Wayne Parsons.
