Carl E. Glassford

Carl E. Glassford, 78, of Fort Madison and formerly of Mt. Pleasant, died at 10:15 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 12, 2000, at the Veterans? Administration Hospital in Iowa City.

      The funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 16, at the Beatty Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with the Rev. Kiboko I. Kiboko officiating. Visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 15, at the Beatty Funeral Home. There will be no family visitation. Burial with full military rites will be in the Cedar Creek Cemetery.

      Mr. Glassford was born Sept. 2, 1922, in Galland, the son of John and Nora Lee Brown Glassford. He served in the Army during World War II and enjoyed camping, fishing, baseball and music.

      Survivors include two sons, Jerry Glassford of Kirksville, Mo. and Timothy Glassford and his wife Irma of Crete, Ill.; a daughter, Karen Major and her husband Randy of Batavia; a sister, Norma Wieneke of Hamilton, Ill.; four grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and two sisters.
