Carl T. Sodergren

Carl Turner Sodergren, 88, of Sunnyvale, Calif., died Friday, Feb. 11.

A memorial service was held Saturday, Feb. 23, at Crosswalk Community Church in Sunnyvale.

He was born April 5, 1919 in Lockridge, the son of Victor and Clara Sodergren. On Aug. 15, 1955, he married Virginia Batstone in Greeley, Colo.

A veteran of three branches of the U.S. military, having served during World War II, he earned his bachelor's degree in business education at Parsons College in Fairfield and a master's degree in education from Drake University in Des Moines.

He taught and coached athletics at Paton High School and taught at Ames Jr. High, where he was also assistant principal, and at Sunnyvale High School in California.

He was a member of Lockridge Trinity Lutheran Church and Sunnyvale First Baptist, now Crosswalk Community Church, where he served as deacon, and of the FUHSD.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, James and Gordon Sodergren, and their grandchildren.

His daughter Kathleen Cunningham preceded him in death.
