Carmen Vale McAllister, 92, of Mesa, Ariz., formerly

of New London and Mount

Pleasant, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2020.

Born Feb. 2, 1928, she was the daughter of James and Cecile Kongable. She married Leonard McAllister on July 31, 1948.

Carmen graduated from Winfield High School in 1946, and attended Iowa State University until her marriage in 1948. After being a homemaker for many years, she graduated from Iowa Wesleyan College and became an elementary art teacher in Mount Pleasant for 22 years. After retirement, she and Leonard put her artistic talent to use by making and selling slip-on collars with coordinating slides at many arts and crafts fairs across the country.

She is survived by her husband; two sons, Lance (Donna) of Fountain Hills, Ariz., and Lyn (Kari) of New London, Iowa; five granddaughters, Megan (Kevin) of Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, Canada, Paige (Kevin) of Kingston, Ontario, Canada, Rebecca (Hunter) of West Point, Iowa, Bailey (Tylor) of Mattoon, Ill., and Katherine, United States Naval Academy; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Sterling, Keith and Sheldon; and one son, Brian.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Interment will be in Cottonwood Cemetery in Morning Sun, Iowa.
