Carol Dailey, 94, passed away Saturday, May 15, 2021, at Anthology Community Care in Town and Country, Mo. Carol was born June 5, 1926, in Oskaloosa, Iowa. She was the daughter of Lynn and Ruth (Roof) Watts of Hedrick, Iowa.
Carol attended Prairie No. 6 country school. She graduated in 1943 from Hedrick High School. Carol later received her B.A. in education. from Iowa Weselyn College. Carol was an elementary teacher for a total of 25 years, mostly at Cardinal Community Schools.
On June 9, 1945, Carol married James Dailey in Agency, Iowa. Carol and Jim farmed three farms: Bladensburg (five years), Libertyville (eight years) and then to Eldon, Iowa, (six years). In 1969, Carol and Jim moved to the town of Eldon, Iowa, and no longer farmed. Carol was known for her excellent teaching, beautiful flower gardens and precise quilting. She loved taking bus tour trips with friends and relatives. Carol was active in TTT Sorority, Retired Teachers Organization, Eldon Chatter Club, Bayview Reading Club, Ottumwa Women's Club and lifetime member of Iowa State Teachers Education Association.
She was devoted to her family and raised her children in the Mount Zion Methodist Church. where she taught Sunday school and Bible school classes. Later, the family attended the Christian Church in Eldon. Before she developed late life dementia, Carol was known for her superb memory and impressed family members with her endless knowledge. She strongly encouraged her children to obtain a higher education, which they did.
Carol and Jim enjoyed their Des Moines river view in Eldon and watching the birds and squirrels activities from their family room's large window facing the river. Jim passed on in May 2013.
In 2014, Carol moved to St. Louis area to live with her daughter and son-in-law. She lived six years with them. It eventually became obvious Carol needed 24 hour special care. Recently she was moved to a nearby memory facility. She adjusted well and enjoyed a happy Mother's Day. Soon after, Carol passed on in her sleep. Her spirit, love and sweetness will be dearly missed. Carol's greatest joy in life came from her children and grandchildren. She created many fond memories for them. Christmas and Thanksgiving meals and activities, Easter egg hunts, swimming outings, swing set fun, fishing, babysitting and etc.
Carol is survived by her three children, Dr. Richard (Kay) Dailey, Dr. Wayne (Lois) Dailey and Marlys (Paul) Hampton; and nine grandchildren, Dr. J.C. (Alison) Price, Tibby (Aaron) Lee, Dr. Tyler (Paige) Dailey, Cole (Alyssa) Dailey, Jade (Dallas) Gutschenritter, Bryce (Hannah) Dailey, Dr. Emilee (Drew) Amacker, Nathaniel Higdon and Kaleb (Elisabeth) Higdon. Carol had nine great-grandchildren. Carol is also survived by her siblings, Vivian Morfitt, Dr. Fred Watts and George Watts.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one infant daughter; and five sisters, Fern Curless, Marion Stark, Frances Kahler, Janet Watts and Lynda Watts.
As were her wishes, her body has been cremated. Graveside services at Brooks Cemetery, Hedrick, Iowa, will be held at a later date.
