Carol Elizabeth Teresa Ensminger
Mount Pleasant
Carol Elizabeth Teresa Ensminger, born on July 15th, 1945 in Brooklyn, New York, passed away peacefully in hospice on Wednesday, April 16th, 2025. She was the beloved daughter of Richard and Mary Walgren. Carol was a loving mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to all who knew her. Her journey on this earth was one marked by love, compassion, and an unwavering faith in God.
Carol is survived by her loving children – Mathew Ensminger (Crystal), Patrick Ensminger (Nicki), and Michael Ensminger (Kristan); grandchildren – Sarah Murphy (Kody), Justin Ensminger (Jessica), Alyssa Hernandez (Augustin), Thomas Ensminger (Peyton), Alex Ensminger, Katie Ensminger (Caleb), Nick Ensminger, Libby Ensminger (Jack), Ryan Ensminger, and Ben Ensminger; great grandchildren – Lilliana Ensminger, Asher Murphy, Leo Ensminger, and Julian Hernandez; and her siblings – Jan Kindem, Vickie Larsen, Ron Walgren, David Walgren, Lori Liechty (John), and Debbie Pickett (Randy); and countless nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Carol was preceded in death by her father, Richard, her mother, Mary, and her husband, John, whom she married on August 9th, 1963.
Carol graduated from Mount Pleasant High School in 1963, after being crowned Homecoming Queen. According to her classmates, “She was our queen, our rose, our star.” Carol dedicated her life to being a loving wife & mother. She held managerial positions at Maurices and Maple Leaf Apartments, but her time at Short Stop in Mediapolis brought her the most joy and she made a lifelong impression on her dedicated staff and regular customers, who still love her dearly to this day.
Many things brought joy to Carol’s life, including her roles as a Cub Scout Leader and a Religious Education Teacher. She loved nothing more than cheering on her children and grandchildren in their countless extracurricular activities. She loved to dance and sing, and infamously did the splits at her granddaughter’s wedding in 2022.
Services will be held at St. Mary’s Parish in Dodgeville, Iowa beginning at 1:00 pm on Monday, April 28th, 2025, with a celebration of life to follow from 2:30-5:30 pm at the Parish Center.
In lieu of flowers, please direct all donations to Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice.
