Carol Fern Flickinger of Washington, Iowa, passed away Saturday, January 28, 2023, on her 100th birthday, at the United Presbyterian Home in Washington, Iowa, following a brief illness.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 4, 2023, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home with Pastor David Shreeves officiating. Calling hours will begin at noon Saturday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. Interment will take place at the Fern Cliff Church in rural Wayland, Iowa. Carol was born January 28, 1923, in Galt, Iowa, the daughter of Howard Everett and Anna Fern (Simpson) Meeker. Shortly after her birth, the family moved to Clarion and then Des Moines where Carol graduated from Des Moines North High School and attended Drake University. She later graduated from the University of Iowa. Carol was united in marriage to Dr. Milton Flickinger on July 30, 1950, in Des Moines, Iowa.

Carol has lived in Washington, Iowa, since 1948, where she was a homemaker and taught school for four years. She attended Fern Cliff Church and was a member of several community organizations including: P.E.O. Chapter J, Fortnightly, Daughters of the American Revolution (D.A.R.), and Questers. She was also a member of Delta Gamma Sorority at Drake University. Carol enjoyed spending time at and entertaining family and friends at Flickinger Pond.

She is survived by her daughter, Jana Dawson and husband Tom of Washington, Iowa; son, Scott Flickinger of Des Moines, Iowa; five grandchildren: Andrew Dawson, Jennifer Lansink and husband Correy, Jeremy Flickinger and wife Dilyana, Adam Flickinger, and Heidi Seykora; as well as nine great-grandchildren.

Carol was preceded in death by her husband in 2004; one son, Mark Flickinger; and two brothers, Everett and Merle Robert Meeker.
