Carol Mae Davis, age 83 of Fairfield, Iowa, passed away, holding her husband Junior’s hand, on December 15, 2022, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.
Carol was born in Adair County, Missouri on November 5, 1939, to Henry and Vera (Keller) Leyden. She married Junior Davis, the love of her life on February 20, 1957. They were blessed with 65 years of marriage.
Carol worked at the Good Samaritan Home in Keosauqua, Iowa for many years as a CNA and in the therapy department. She was a caregiver to all she met during her lifetime. She was an excellent cook and loved being outside and working in the yard. Carol was extremely active in the church, weekly children’s Bible study and Vacation Bible School during the summer. After Junior retired, they spent the winters in Texas for a few years.
The most important thing in Carol’s life was her family and her faith.
Carol will be missed by her husband Junior, and her children, Vicki Ruggles of Waukee, Brenda (Steve) Gaston of Keosauqua, Susan (Rick) Heine of Hampshire, IL and Bret Davis of Newton; 9 grandchildren, April Ruggles of Des Moines, Amanda (Roger) Mozee of Des Moines, Dwane Ponx III of Grimes, Randi (Ryan) Troutman of Keosauqua, C.J. (Kendal) Gaston of Nashville, TN; Josh (Amber) Van Dorin of Huntley, IL; Jessie (Corey) Jenkins of Monroe Center, IL; Sarah (A.J. Nolthing) Davis of Fort Madison and Lane Davis of Iowa City. She is also survived by several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, James LaVerne "Lefty" Leyton, and one sister, Thelma Carter.
Funeral services will be in the Prairie View Church, Ollie, Iowa on Monday, January 2, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Phil Campbell officiating. The Fremont Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Visitation will begin Monday, January 2 at 9:30 a.m. until service time at 11:00 a.m. at the Prairie View Church in Ollie with the family present to greet relatives and friends.
A memorial will be to St. Croix Hospice.
