Carol Welsh, 76, of Williamsburg, Iowa, passed away Thursday, November 7, 2024, at her home. Memorial Service: 11:30 a.m. November 16, 2024, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids with visitation to begin at 10:30 a.m. Private family burial will be held at St. Michaels Cemetery, Holbrook, Iowa.
Carol was born January 9, 1948, in Urbana, Iowa, the daughter of Earl and Ruby (Badding) Fee. She married Larry McMurrin, Sr., the couple later divorced. On August 29, 1981, Carol was united in marriage to Thomas “Mick” Welsh. Carol was a hard-working person who started working at age 13 for a dry cleaner. She worked at National Oats, Collins Radio, and Turner Microphone. Carol retired from Square D after 38 ½ years of service and she then enjoyed working on the farm they moved to in 1987. She was a member of Farm Bureau and a lifetime member of United Machinist Union Local 831. She loved evenings dancing to country music with her best buddy, Mick. Carol enjoyed pool league, singing, playing steel guitar in her youth, reading books, and watching game shows, especially Wheel of Fortune. Her true love was spending time with her family.
Survivors include her husband, Mick Welsh of Williamsburg; children, Scott McMurrin, Todd (Brenda) McMurrin, Shelley McMurrin all of Cedar Rapids; step-son, Sean (Shelly) Welsh of Williamsburg; grandchildren, Brandon (Paige) McMurrin, Melissa (Evan) Gentes, Haleigh McMurrin (Jordon), Breanna McMurrin, Brooke (Derek) Hepker, Ashley (Colin) O’Connor, Eli (Kiley) Welsh, and Caleb Welsh; great-grandchildren, Maverick, Brycen, Ryker, Bronson, and Ireland; and her four-legged son, Rizzo. She was loved and will be missed by many.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents; son, Larry McMurrin Jr.; and many beloved pets.
The family would like to extend a special thank-you to the staff at Essence of Life Hospice in Amana, Iowa.
