Carole Rae Simmons was born April 24, 1945, in Iowa City, Iowa the daughter of Edward and Mildred (Teggatz) Lorenz. She graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1963. Carole was united in marriage to James Simmons on May 8, 1965, in Williamsburg. Together they made their home in Iowa City and later moved to Marengo. Carole worked in Admissions at U of I, Peterson Pharmacy, Johnston Insurance, Midwest Governmental Services at the Court House and Williamsburg Family Practice. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. She was also a Master Gardener and a Cub Scout leader. Carole's pride and joy were her grandchildren; she loved taking them out to eat, attending their activities, and having them over to her house. Carole died on Friday, January 26, 2024, at her home surrounded by her family, at the age of 78 years.

She is survived by her two sons, Deron Simmons, of Huntersville, NC and Justin (Nicole) Simmons, of Williamsburg; and four grandchildren, Greta, Maisie, Henry and Logan Simmons. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, James in 2021.

Celebration of Life Service was held 10:30 am Monday, January 29, 2024, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Marengo. Visitation was 3:00-5:00 pm Sunday at the Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg. In Lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established for the Iowa Donor Network. Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg is caring for Carole and her family.
