Belle Plaine
Carolyn Ann Fly was born and raised in southwestern Kentucky, in Fulton, next to the Tennessee line. She grew up working with her brother, Steve, in the family diner, The Derby – a very popular spot, run by Hugh and Ann Fly. She was a cheerleader in middle school and voted Best Dressed at her graduation. She went to Murray State and got her Masters in Education. Carol is a member of Alpha Omicron Pi sorority. She was married to Wilson Woolley during her grad years. They have two daughters, Opal Fly (UK grad in Sociology) – a saxophone musician and songwriter and Jubilee Woolley-Fly has a degree in Linguistics from CSULB. Carol taught at Fort Campbell, KY, Grayville, IL, Harwood and Plaza Park Middle Schools in Evansville, teaching Social Studies and English.
After retirement from full-time teaching, she was a volunteer tutor at the Literacy Center and also taught a semester at USI in a similar capacity. She volunteered at the Patchwork Central Food Pantry, fed the homeless at the men’s shelter at the YMCA and read newspaper articles to the blind on WNIN. Carol has been married to Dain Hill for 44-plus years.
Carol’s final resting place will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Belle Plaine, Iowa, with a graveside service 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 14, 2023. Hrabak-Neuhaus Funeral Service is assisting her family.
Memorial donations in Carol's honor can be made to Patchwork Central or Alzheimer's Association.
