Carolyn Jean Edwards passed away peacefully March 21, 2024, at Harlingen Medical center, Harlingen, TX, with her family by her side. Carolyn Jean Harrison Edwards was born September 22, 1940, in Jefferson County, Iowa, the daughter of Denver and Helen Neiswanger Harrison. She graduated from Fairfield High School in 1958. Carolyn married Maynard Edwards on March 14, 1959, in Fairfield, Iowa, and had just celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. They made Stockport their home in Van Buren County, Iowa, where they farmed for many years. Carolyn was a member of the Methodist Church, active in the Van Buren Cattlemen's Association and served on the Van Buren Hospital board. She was a licensed pilot and enjoyed traveling the world. Carolyn was a bookkeeper at the Stockport grain elevator for over 25 years, was active in the Stockport community, working as the local librarian, and was a 4-H leader for many years. She was an avid reader, crossworder and loved her cats and animals and her beautiful flower gardens. Carolyn was especially compassionate and thoughtful of others, but her family came first. She never missed a birthday, holiday or special family event, she found great joy in sending care packages to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Carolyn is survived by her husband of 65 years, Maynard Edwards, Weslaco, TX, 2 daughters Terri (Dana) Haub, Moulton, IA, Tina (Tony) Lyon, Reinbeck, IA. A sister Janet (Gary) Moody, Osage, IA. Grandchildren Colby Gardner, Tyler (Nicole) Lyon, Whitney (Joe) Kuefler, Justin (fiancé Emily) Edwards, Jenna (Chayse) Jackson, Cameron (Olivia) Edwards. Great-gGrandchildren, Rand & Rylee Gardner, Konnor May, Makenzie & Clarke Lyon, Jack, Margo & Claire Kuefler, Joa Edwards.
Carolyn was preceded in death by a son Tim Edwards, and her parents Denver & Helen Harrison.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Carolyn on Saturday, May 25, from 1 – 3 pm at Longview Lodge, in Stockport, IA. Memorials can be made to Friends of Morris Park.
