Carolyn Kauffman

KALONA ? Carolyn Kay Kauffman, 77, of Kalona, died Friday, Oct. 21, 2016, in Kalona.

Celebration of life service will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 25, at the Kalona Christian Fellowship in Kalona. Burial will be in the Sharon Hill Cemetery in Kalona. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Monday, Oct. 24, at the Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona. A memorial fund has been established for Washington County Hospice. The Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona is handling the arrangements.

Mrs. Kauffman was born Aug. 16, 1939, the daughter of Joseph R. and Mabel (Bushman) Miller. She married John F. Kauffman on June 18, 1958, at St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Iowa City.

She attended country school in Cosgrove and graduated from St. Mary?s Catholic School in Iowa City. She worked for Drs. Zasadny and Manly, and in the kitchens at Highland High School and Kalona Elementary School. She was a member of the Kalona Christian Fellowship Church, Burning Bush Bible study, and card club in Riverside. She enjoyed dancing, crocheting, cooking, traveling with her husband, taking care of her huge vegetable garden, and crossword puzzles.

Surviving are three children, Teresa Myers of Kalona, Amy Almeida and husband Greg of Buda, Texas, and Eric Kauffman of Austin, Texas; and seven grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John, in 2004; one infant son, David; and two brothers, Leo Miller, and Eugene Miller.
