Carolyn Wallerich, age 86, of Washington, Iowa, passed away Thursday, February 13, 2025, at Halcyon House in Washington following a lengthy illness.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at the Faith Baptist Church in Washington with Pastor Jon Rees officiating. Calling hours will begin 2:00 p.m. Monday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will be present to receive friends from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. Monday. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Memorials have been established for the Faith Baptist Church or Hospice of Washington County. Carolyn was born August 16, 1938, in Montezuma, Iowa, the daughter of Jarrett and Zella (Sams) Beal. She attended school in Oskaloosa, Iowa, and graduated from Oskaloosa High School in 1956. She was united in marriage to Gene Wallerich on April 27, 1957, in Oskaloosa, Iowa.
Carolyn worked for United Food Store in Oskaloosa and following her marriage she worked for Hy-Vee Food Stores. She later owned and operated the Sears Catalog Store in Washington, Iowa, for many years. Carolyn was a member of the Faith Baptist Church and enjoyed reading, baking and traveling. She loved to go on motorcycle rides with her husband and they enjoyed wintering in Texas for over 20 years. Carolyn especially enjoyed her family and the time spent with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Gene Wallerich of Washington, Iowa; daughter, Crystal (Larry) Turnipseed of Lakeway, Texas; daughter, Renee (Merv) Hershberger of Riverside, Iowa; son, Cleveland (Lori) Wallerich of Wichita Falls, Texas; four grandchildren: Joshua (Melissa) Stark, Jared (Alyssa) Turnipseed, Brandon Conaway, Emma (Brandon) Wallerich Gibson; and three great-grandchildren: Kate Stark, Hudson Turnipseed and Casen Turnipseed.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother, Leroy Beal.
