Charles D. Littrell
Charles D. Littrell, 81, of Salem, died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
The funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, at the Beatty Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with the Rev. Tom Palmer of the Salem Friends Church officiating. Visitation will be from noon to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 12, at the funeral home with the family present from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery with military rites by the West Point American Legion Post #668. Memorials have been established for the Salem Fire Department and the Animal Rescue Foundation.
Mr. Littrell was born Nov. 24, 1919 in Dixon, Ill., the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ethel Shomaker Littrell. He married Mayme Detrick in Harmon, Ill., on July 16, 1949 He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, was a member of the West Point American Legion Post #668 and worked as a welder. He attended the Salem Friends Church in Salem and was very involved with the Animal Rescue Foundation. He enjoyed bowling and working outside.
Survivors include his wife and one sister, Imogene Ribordy of Dixon, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.
