Charles Eugene “Gene” Stine, 83, of Birmingham, IA passed away Sunday, August 10, 2025, at Mercy West One in Des Moines. A service celebrating Gene’s life will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at the Cranston Family Funeral Home in Fairfield, IA with Masonic Rites at 10:30 a.m. followed by the funeral service with Pastor Gary Brooks officiating. Burial will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery in Birmingham, IA immediately following the service. Friends are invited to the Birmingham Community Church for a time of lunch and fellowship after the graveside service. A visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 15, 2025, at the Cranston Family Funeral Home in Fairfield with the family present to greet friends from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Gene’s honor may be directed to the Shriner Children's Hospital. Gene was born June 3, 1942, to Charles and Blanche Stine in Flora, IL. He married Linda Beeler from Ursa, IL on February 10, 1963. Gene and Linda raised three children in Birmingham.
Gene worked at Mayn’s Grocery Store in Fairfield as a meat market manager. He did this for 31 years. He then moved on to Strawhackers in Ottumwa. Finally, he ended his career with Ottumwa Radio Group working in sales and marketing.
Gene loved serving his community. He was a member of the Birmingham Lions Club 50-plus years, Birmingham Volunteer Fire Department 50 plus-years, KAABA Shrine and Masonic Clinton Lodge 15.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, grandson, Ryan Stine; and great-granddaughter, Nova Stine.
Gene is survived by his wife Linda; son Phillip (Jen Wilson Brady), Birmingham; Allan (Shelly) Hopkinsville, KY; Sherry (Tom) Klein, Comstock, WI. Grandchildren Patrick Stine, Becky Armas, Christine Klein, Dalton Stine, and Neil Klein; Great-Grandchildren Lucas Stine, Gabriel Stine, Shepard Stine, Kamden Stine, Beckett Stine, and Carmen Armas.
