Charles Owen Nash, 85, of Newton died on Friday, November 25, 2022, under the care of Hospice at Unity Point Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 1, 2022, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends after the service with a lunch at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Donor’s Choice may be left at the funeral home.
Charles was born the youngest of 13 children on April 12, 1937, to Elwood and Bertha (Dunsmor) Nash in Brighton, Iowa. He graduated from Brighton High School in 1955 and moved to Des Moines. On October 12, 1956, he married Ellen L. Anderson and they were blessed with two children, George and Janice. Ellen died on February 26, 1974. He later married Evelyn Farrier Evans on April 11, 1981 in Des Moines. They moved to Newton in 1983 where Charles worked in logistics/transportation for the Maytag Company.
Charles enjoyed fishing, music, playing Bingo, traveling, and family dinners. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan and enjoyed watching Iowa basketball and football games. Charles was active at the Senior Citizens Center in Newton. He was a wonderful husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Charles is survived by his wife, Evelyn Nash of Newton; daughter, Janice (Dan) Cameron of Winterset; daughter-in-law, Christine Nash of Marshalltown; five grandchildren, Beth Nash, Kelly Nash, Jill Cameron, Elizabeth Cameron, and Sean Cameron; stepgranddaughter, Samantha (Matt) Ellison; grandson-in-law, Steve Holman; his great-grandchildren, Nate, Ryan, Matt, Leah, Paul, Olivia, and Spencer; stepgreat-grandchildren, Avery, Aubrey, and Alexis; three sisters, Stella Rich of Washington, Hattie Manning of Fairfield, and Beatrice Stull of Ollie; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Ellen Nash; son, George Nash; granddaughter, Molly Holman; and nine siblings.
