Charles P. Thompson, 86, of DeWitt died Tuesday, April 18, 2000, at Crestridge in Maquoketa.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be at noon Monday, April 24, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in DeWitt with the Rev. H. Robert Harness celebrating the funeral mass. Burial will be in the St. Alphonsus Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant. Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 25 at the St. Alphonsus Catholic Cemetery with full Military Rites. The family visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the Beatty Funeral Home. Friends may call from 2 until 5 p.m. Sunday, April 23, at the Schultz Funeral Home in DeWitt, where a scripture service will be held at 2 p.m. There will be a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 5 p.m.
Mr. Thompson was born July 21, 1913, in Fredrick, S.D., the son of Mack J. and Margaret Hill Thompson. He married Mary Seager on Aug. 16, 1942, in Mt. Pleasant. They owned and operated the Western Auto Store in DeWitt for 31 years along with his sisters. He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in DeWitt, the DeWitt Knights of Columbus Council, the Davenport Fourth degree Knights of Columbus Honor Guard, the DeWitt American Legion, the VFW and DAV. He was a WWII Army veteran serving in Africa in the First Armored Division.
Survivors include his wife; and one sister, Marguerite Almond of DeWitt. He was preceded in death by one sister, Wilma Putney.
