Charles R. Smithburg

Charles R. Smithburg, 63, of Waterloo, formerly of Salem, died Thursday, Aug. 28, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo.

Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. Monday, Sept. 1, at Murphy Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant, with family present from 6 to 7:30 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Hank Ledbetter officiating. Burial will be at Salem East Cemetery, with military honors conducted by the Henry County Honor Guard.

He was born Sept. 5, 1944, in Fairfield, the son of Wilbur and Virginia Conner Smithburg. On April 30, 1968, he married Carol Kephart; they later divorced.
