LONE TREE ? Charles Wilbur Huff Sr., 78, of Lone Tree, died Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2015, in Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 14, at the Sorden-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Lone Tree. Burial will be in the Lone Tree Cemetery. Following committal services at the cemetery, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the Lone Tree American Legion. Visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m., Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the Lone Tree Fire and Rescue.
Mr. Huff was born Feb. 18, 1937, in rural Lone Tree, the son of Roy C. and Pearle E. (Baker) Huff. He married Patricia L. Hawthorn on Aug. 6, 1960, in Lone Tree. The couple later divorced.
He was a 1956 graduate of Lone Tree High School. He served in the Army Reserve from 1960 to 1967, attaining the rank of buck sergeant. He owned and operated Huff Roofing for many years, and was a member of the Lone Tree Fire Department for 35 years. He drove school bus for the Lone Tree Community School for 50 years, receiving an award from the State of Iowa Pupil Transportation Association for his years of service. He served on the Parks Commission and Planning and Zoning for the City of Lone Tree, was a member of the United Presbyterian Church and the Lone Tree Chamber of Commerce, and helped deliver congregate meals in Riverside and medicine for River Crossing. He enjoyed bowling in leagues, state bowling trips, coffee with the boys, driving around Lone Tree in his golf cart, and mowing. He was an avid Hawkeye fan, especially of women?s basketball.
Surviving are two children, Charles W. Huff Jr. and fiancée Jill Welter of Lone Tree, and Jeffrey A. Huff and wife Diana of Riverside.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
