Charles William Easter
Charles William Easter, 84, of Bonaparte died at 4:15 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2005, at Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua.
A service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Schmitz-Lynk Funeral Home in Farmington, with the Rev. Paul Rekward officiating. His body will be cremated following the service.
A graveside memorial service with full military rites by the Bonaparte American Legion will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Bonaparte Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 9 a.m., with the family present from 1-2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Bonaparte First Responders.
Mr. Easter was born Aug. 3, 1921, in Bonaparte, the son of James M. and Leta Earhart Easter. He married Marjorie Troutman Aug. 15, 1942, in Edina, Mo.
Mr. Easter was a graduate of Bonaparte High School. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was employed by the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant from 1941-1942 and then from 1950-1984. He was a 60-year member of the Bonaparte American Legion.
Mr. Easter served on various community projects and committees as he lived his entire married life in Bonaparte. He was a long-term councilman on the Bonaparte City Council and served on the Harmony School Board. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was known throughout the community for his numerous hand wood carvings and woodworking. After his retirement from IAAP, he operated a shop in Bentonsport where he sold his wood works, and later owned and operated a shop in Bonaparte.
Survivors include his wife, Marjorie of Bonaparte; one son, James Michael Easter and wife Susie of Donnellson; one daughter, Terri Delker and husband Dennis of Fairfield; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one sister, Roberta Roberts of Cedar Rapids.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Frank Gregory Easter; one grandson; three brothers and two sisters.
