Chester Kenneth Ballard was born September 10, 1942, in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Kenneth Newton & Jessie Ruth (Downing) Ballard. He graduated from North English High School in 1961. On June 16, 1962, Chester was united in marriage to Carol Ann Dietze in North English. He was a lifelong farmer and worked three years at Amana Refrigeration in Amana. Chester was a member of the North English United Methodist Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching the wildlife, farming and spending time with family. Chester died on Saturday, May 25, 2025, at the Pella Comfort House in Pella, Iowa, at the age of 82 years.

He is survived by two sons, Dennis Ballard of Wayland and Don (Brenda) Ballard of Knoxville; three grandsons, Brian (Chelsey) Ballard, Kevin Ballard and Shawn (Rachael) Ballard; four great-grandchildren, Jaxon, Chase, Kash & Odin Ballard; and a sister, Sheila (Greg) Knuth of North English. He is preceded by his parents, wife and a sister, Janice Masters.

Funeral Services were held 11:00 am on Wednesday, May 28, 2025 at the Powell Funeral Home in North English. Burial followed in the North English Cemetery. Visitation was held Wednesday, from 9:30 am until service time, at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.
