MOUNT PLEASANT ? Clarence L. Anderson, 87, of Brighton, died Saturday, Oct. 3, 2015, in the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
As he had requested, his body was donated to the Carver College of Medicine at the University of Iowa for scientific research. Visitation with the family present will be from 10 to 11 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 7, at the Calvary Baptist Church in Mount Pleasant. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. at the church with the Rev. Bob Wolfe and the Rev. Jerry Van Hooser officiating. A general memorial has been established. The Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel in Mount Pleasant is assisting the family with the arrangements.
Mr. Anderson was born Nov. 26, 1927, in Fairfield, the son of Carl John and Maude (Krumbolts) Anderson. He married Lois Dorwald on June 22, 1957, in Middleport, New York.
In his early years, he attended country schools and later graduated from Fairfield High School. He received his Master of Divinity degree from Bob Jones University in Greenville, South Carolina. He pastored churches all over the Midwest for over 60 years, mostly in Iowa. Sharing Christ?s love was a great passion for him. He was eager to share the good news of the Gospel with anyone willing to listen. He was a lifelong farmer and was known for winning the Tall Corn Contest at the Iowa State Fair for a number of years. He was often found on the baseball diamonds, volunteering as a coach for Little League baseball teams. One of his favorite pastimes was spending time with family traveling on summer vacations. He also had a great passion for his blue heelers.
Surviving are his wife, Lois, of Brighton; one daughter, Leah Woline and husband Wayne of Mount Pleasant; three sons, Dan Anderson and wife Brenda of Mount Pleasant, Joel Anderson of Brighton, and Jon Anderson and wife Michelle of Lyman, South Carolina; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Middlekoop of Packwood; one brother, William Anderson of Fairfield; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Merlin Anderson, Wilbur Anderson, and Gerald Anderson; one sister, Marjorie Russell; two nephews; and three nieces.
